While in Pennsylvania I was lucky to live a few minutes from Jenkins Arboretum in Devon PA. The gardens became very special to me and were a lovely peaceful source of inspiration. I would often visit with my sketch book and gather information which led me to the composition Summer’s End.

It was a hot and humid August and I could feel a change in the season. Not quite the shedding of leaves but the light and length of the day. The bench is in memory of a person who loved spending time here and has since passed on.

Looking back on this painting I feel the spirit of those who have gone before us and an invitation to sit a while in the beautiful pink light.
