Structure of the Day
Morning
Participants arrive for tea, coffee and a relaxed introduction in the studio.
The morning session begins with grounding through sketching and observation. Weather permitting, we will spend some time outdoors gathering inspiration from the landscape through quick sketches and journaling.
Back in the studio, Monica will introduce materials, intuitive mark-making and expressive techniques through short demonstrations and playful exercises.
We will explore colour, mood and atmosphere by creating a personal sketchbook mood board using swatches, collage and collected inspiration.
Lunch Break
A relaxed light lunch and informal discussion.
Afternoon
The afternoon session introduces simple approaches to landscape composition and building atmosphere within a painting.
Using sketchbooks and gathered inspiration as a starting point, participants will develop an expressive landscape on canvas through layering, colour and intuitive mark-making.
Individual guidance and support will be provided throughout the day.
Materials
The workshop will primarily use water-based materials and mixed media techniques in a relaxed and exploratory way.
For those with previous experience using oils, oil paints and related materials will also be available.
All materials are included in the workshop fee.
